History of Tarland 

The village and its surrounding area also offer lots of historical interest for residents and visitors alike including the 4,000 year old Tomnaverie stone circle to the south of the village, and Culsh Earth House – a mysterious stone-lined tunnel, which experts believe dates back around 2,000 years.

 

Things to do in Tarland 

Tarland is also home to a good range of amenities with a football pitch, bowling green and tennis courts all available within the village park.

Making the most of the beautiful Howe of Cromar countryside couldn’t be easier. The area is packed with great walks – including The Tarland Way, which stretches a full 10 kilometres (6 miles) between Aboyne and Tarland, taking in some great scenery along the way.

Golf also offers the chance to experience some great views of the surrounding landscape – and the outstanding 9-hole parkland golf course at Tarland Golf Club, designed by Tom Morris in 1908, has been described as a ‘Morris masterpiece’.

The village is also known for the Tarland show, which takes place every August and offers a full programme of events including a livestock show, tractor show, as well as a highland dancing competition and children’s events.
