History of Newburgh

The village’s beginnings date back to the 13th century when the original settlement was established. Eventually, the village developed into a salmon fishing centre and then later as a small seaport. By the 19th century, a small fleet of fishing boats and other fishing vessels moored at Newburgh’s port, lead to the existence of the first lifeboat station. This remained at Newburgh until 1961 when it was relocated to Peterhead.
