Gourdon

The small, coastal fishing village of Gourdon is located in Kincardineshire, approximately 25 miles south of Aberdeen city and 12 miles north of Montrose. The village is less than an hour’s drive from both Dundee and Aberdeen, making it a popular choice with commuters.

Housing a population of approximately 860, the village offers spectacular views of the North Sea and remains a working fishing port with merchants filleting and smoking fish in sheds around the harbour. Many of the fishermen who frequent Gourdon still employ traditional methods, such as seine netting for cod fishing and, in the summer, checking the creels for lobsters and crabs. The area is also famous for its fish and chips, and the village has a traditional quayside shop which sells the best of its seafood.

Gourdon, which maintains a strong, distinctive culture, has a number of its own amenities, including a general store with post office, and public house. Further shops and amenities can be found in the larger town of Inverbervie, which is only a mile to the village’s south. There’s also a primary school located in the village, Gourdon School, as well as a nearby secondary school, Mackie Academy in Stonehaven.

Auchenblae Golf Course is within easy reach of Gourdon, with the nine-hole golf course noted for its hard-to-hit greens, and the nearby Drumtochty Castle is a neo-gothic style castellated mansion erected in 1812 and a popular wedding venue.
