Insch

Insch is an attractive residential village in the Garioch area of Aberdeenshire. It is situated around 11 miles from Inverurie, 14 miles southeast of Huntly and within easy commuting distance of the city of Aberdeen, which is about 30 miles and less than an hour’s drive away.

Insch has excellent transport links, with Insch Railway Station located on the main Aberdeen to Inverness line and serving over 100,000 passengers per year. There are also regular bus services to Huntly and Inverurie, and the village’s convenient location just off the A96 provides great commuting options for those who work in the surrounding areas, such as Aberdeen, Inverurie, Huntly and Elgin.

The village, which is located in the heart of the beautiful Aberdeenshire countryside, has a good selection of amenities for residents including a number of local shops and a post office. There’s also a health and community centre in the village as well as a local library, and for the young ones, there are a number of play parks scattered throughout the village as well as a football pitch beside the leisure centre.

Additionally, the village has its own primary school, Insch School, and has easy links to secondary schools in the neighbouring areas of Inverurie and Huntly. There is also a Golf Club in the village, Insch Golf Club, which has been described as a ‘hidden gem’ in Grampian’s crown and boasts a stunning location between the hills of Bennachie and Dunnideer.

History of Insch

The area is rich in history, and the site of the remains of Dunnideer Castle, an ancient hill fort whose origins can be traced as far back as 250 BC, can be found on the outskirts of the town. The ruins of the tower house that lie on the hill are from a larger structure which was built around the mid-13th century, giving an idea of the history that lives in the area.
