History of Peterculter

The origins of Peterculter as a settlement date back as far as the 12th century, when King William The Lion conferred the church of Kulter (iuxta Abirdene) on the Abbey of St Kelso and its monks. Today, the area is an attractive suburb of Aberdeen with a population of around 5,000.

Peterculter has proved popular with commuters as a residential location – its scenic countryside location providing a perfect combination of city working and country living. There is also a good choice of shops as well as pubs and restaurants in the area – and of course everything Aberdeen city centre has to offer is just a short journey away.

The primary school feeds into Cults Academy, which is around 3 miles from Peterculter. Cults Academy is regularly reported as one of the top performing schools in the country and offers a comprehensive program of education in a light, modern, state of the art facility. Free bus travel is also offered for pupils travelling three or miles to the school.
