History of Cove Bay

Originally a fishing village, Cove has been associated with other industries over the years, including granite, which was quarried locally and exported to many locations throughout the UK where it was used to build many of the UK’s roads. Today, many of Cove’s residents work in Aberdeen and the nearby Altens and Tullos Industrial Estates also offer employment opportunities to residents.

 

What to do in Cove Bay

While Cove is now part of Aberdeen, it retains its charming village character and has lots to offer those who live there. The village includes a range of local amenities with a number of shops, including a Co-Op and Sainsbury’s, and the newly constructed Cove Bay Health Centre. The area is also close to a number of parks and green spaces including the Duthie Park, which features an award winning play area for the little ones, and Hazlehead Park, which is popular with dog walkers, runners and cyclists. Meanwhile, the Cove Bay Hotel is a popular destination for locals to unwind and take in the breath-taking views of the town's rugged coastline. Featuring a cosy bar and restaurant, the Cove Bay hotel has been part of the town for over 200 years, built in traditional pink and beige granite.

This bustling, suburban community is ideal for those with young families, with two schools in the area, Charleston Primary School and Loirston Primary School, both of which are within walking distance from virtually anywhere in the village. Cove also has excellent public transport connections to the city of Aberdeen and has easy access to the A90.

Another big pull for families to the area is the recently opened Lochside academy, the facility opened its doors in 2018 with the aim to bring together pupils from the now closed, Portlethen and Kincorth Academies. The school boasts impressive, modern amenities and outstanding athletic facilities including dance studios, sports pitches and a swimming pool.
