Dyce

Dyce is a suburban area of Aberdeen which lies about five miles north-west of the city, and is best known as the home of Aberdeen International Airport. Commuting to Aberdeen and the surrounding areas is also quick and convenient, due to Dyce’s close proximity to the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR). Since opening, journey times have been cut dramatically. A journey to Stonehaven, for example, now takes approximately 36 minutes, roughly half of the time needed before the AWPR was operational. 

Situated on the west bank of the River Don, the main industries in Dyce are oil and gas due to its proximity to the North Sea, with Aberdeen Airport also creating a great number of employment opportunities in the area. BP has headquarters within Dyce, alongside other oil, gas and aviation companies, and the town’s population has grown to more than 5,800 as a result of the expansions within these sectors over recent years. As well as these industries, a number of industrial estates exist in Dyce which offer employment in the areas of food processing, plant hire, telecommunications, transport and engineering.

To the north of the airport lies the site of the Old Church of Dyce, an early medieval church dedicated to Bishop St. Fergus in the 8th century. Now owned by Historic Scotland, the church is open to the public at all times without an entrance charge.

This popular residential area has a number of local amenities, including supermarkets, a post office and banks, and is well served by public transport, including a regular bus service to and from Aberdeen as well as Dyce Railway Station which is on the Aberdeen to Inverness line. The town also has its own schools, including Dyce Academy, the local secondary school which has about 500 pupils, and Dyce Primary School. There are also several of the most prestigious golf courses in Scotland nearby, including Trump International, which is only 20 minutes away, and the world famous Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, which is a mere 15 minutes away from Dyce.
