Durris

Durris is situated in Aberdeenshire by the hamlet Kirkton of Durris to the south of the River Dee; 4 miles east of Banchory and 14 miles from Aberdeen city centre.  The area was once home to Durris Castle, a 13^th century royal residence. No remains of the castle exist today, however the knoll upon which it was built retains the name Castle Hill. Much of the nearby area is covered by Durris Forest.

Durris and Kirkton of Durris are conveniently located, set in countryside close by Banchory and within easy commuting distance of Aberdeen. It makes an ideal base for commuting while offering scenic rural surroundings.

Things to do in Durris

With Durris only 5 miles from Banchory, there is an array of restaurants, pubs and leisure facilities only a short drive from the village. Crathes Castle is another popular day out, only around 3 miles from Durris, making it the perfect place to spend time with the family. The castle boasts a walled garden, “Wild Wood” adventure play and a café.

Durris School is the local primary school in the area, with around 47 pupils. Crossroads Nursery is around 2 miles from the centre of the village and around 4 miles from the primary school. Durris School feeds into nearby Banchory Academy and there is a free bus service provided for students living more than 3 miles away.
