Keith

Keith is a market town in Moray situated just under 50 miles north-west of Aberdeen and 55 miles east of Inverness on the A96. The town’s population currently numbers approximately 4,800.

Old Keith - which lies to the west of the river Isla - dates back to the 12th century, while the rest of the town on the other side of the river developed later. In the 18th century, the town expanded further when the Earl of Findlater designed New Keith - the first planned town in the north east of Scotland.

Boasting a location in the heart of Speyside, it’s no surprise that Keith is known for its links to the Scotch whisky industry - with a number of famous whisky producers based in and around the town. Keith is also home to the Highlands’ oldest working distillery, Strathisla, which produces the world-famous Chivas Regal blended Scotch and is one of the stops on Scotland’s Malt Whisky Trail.

For schooling, there are options for both primary and secondary schools within the town. Keith Primary School comes equipped with a fantastic nursery facility that caters to ages three and up, and the primary school itself has excellent facilities to support younger years learning with approximately 300 current students ensuring that class sizes stay relatively small. There is also the local St. Thomas R C Primary School, which also includes a nursery class and is built moments aways from the impressive St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church. For secondary schools, there is Keith Grammar School, which boasts an impressive range of facilities including a  library, additional support needs department and specialist classrooms to ensure every course and learning path is catered for.

There is an excellent choice of things to do in Keith, with an array of walking and cycling routes as well as an 18-hole parkland golf course, Keith Golf Club. The club stretches out over the gorgeous Aberdeenshire countryside and the clubhouse offers a cosy bar with catering facilities.

Keith has lots to offer both residents and visitors alike, with a good selection of traditional shops, a large supermarket and local restaurants. There is also a range of good local amenities including a library and a sports & community centre. Additionally, there is a local GP practice in the town, Keith Health Centre, which offers health advice and support to the town’s 4,800 residents.
