Methlick is a small village in Aberdeenshire, situated on the River Ythan and within easy reach of Ellon and Oldmeldrum, which are both 7 miles away. The journey from Methlick to Aberdeen by car is around 40 minutes. As of 2021, the population of Methlick is approximately 540 people.

History of Methlick

Methlick is situated on the River Ythan, which rises in Aberdeenshire, and is 87 feet above sea-level. This name Methlick is derived from Gaelic Maothulach which loosely translates to "the Vale of honey." 

The most famous historic attraction near Methlick is Haddo House, which has been owned by the National Trust for Scotland since 1979. It is a large stately home that has been occupied by the Gordon family for the last 500 years, who later became the Earls and Marquesses of Aberdeen.

Things to do in Methlick

Methlick village features a renovated play park which provides a range of play and exercise facilities for all ages. It has an all-weather court with floodlighting for evening play, and the goal of the renovation was to cater for four core sports – tennis, basketball, netball and five-a-side football.

Haddo Country Park which lies 2 miles from Methlick covers almost 240 acres of woodland, grassland, open parkland and water.  There are several walking routes throughout the park, with opportunities to feed the ducks and geese, and there is also an adventure playpark.  Several events are hosted at the Country Park throughout the year.
