Collieston and its surrounding areas are a hugely popular destination for coastal walking with multiple routes and beach paths located nearby. The village is close to several golf clubs, including Cruden Bay Golf Club, Newburgh on Ythan Golf Course, and McDonald Golf Club in the nearby town of Ellon.
Just south of the village, and within walking distance, is the vast expanse of Forvie National Nature Reserve, one of the UK’s largest sand dune systems, which stretches for three miles along the shore, all the way to the River Ythan at Newburgh.
A hub of history and culture, the village was originally established in the 1500s and flourished as a busy fishing village for centuries, thanks to its excellent natural harbour.
