The village is close to several golf clubs, including Cruden Bay Golf Club, Newburgh on Ythan Golf Course, and McDonald Golf Club in the nearby town of Ellon.

Collieston is also home to the remains of Old Slains Castle which is located around a mile north of the village. The original castle was blown up in 1594 and its replacement, Slains Castle, was then built in 1597, further up the coast.
