August in the North East
2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of ASPC. Over five decades, we have been at the forefront of property marketing in the North East of Scotland. To commemorate this important milestone, our 2019 calendar takes us on a journey around the area to showcase the beautiful location in which we work and live.
The calendar features a selection of specially commissioned photographs by the acclaimed Aberdeen-born photographer Ray Smith, who captures the location in a unique and engaging way.
Our calendar images for August pay homage to one of the biggest exports of the North East, whisky, and the many world-famous distilleries that call this area home. For those who enjoy a wee dram, a North East whisky event with a twist has made it onto our list this month: sláinte!
Banchory Beer Festival 9th, 10th and 11th of August
For the 6th year in a row, Banchory Beer Festival will be returning to the Deeside Rugby Club Pitches. Stretching over three days, the festival will serve a host of beverages including beer, gin, rum, whisky, prosecco and cocktails, as well as wonderful street food and excellent live music from local artists.
This year, the festival is also reintroducing their cashless system, allowing you to top up on the go from your smartphone and reduce the time spent queuing to pay. With a family day taking part on the Sunday, there’s something for everyone at this festival.
Lonach Highland Gathering & Games 24th August
Bellabeg Park in Strathdon will be taken over by the Lonach Highland Gathering and Games on 24th August. The Games will showcase traditional sports and events including pipe bands, tug-o-war and Highland dancing. As always, most of the Games are open to the public to enter, including the dancing competition, children’s races and the popular Hill Race.
If you can’t make the Games themselves, there is also the Lonach Family Dance held that evening in Lonach Hall or the Lonach Highland Ball, a traditional black-tie affair, which will be held on Friday 30th August.
Whisky Club & Social: Game of Thrones Edition 21st August
The Tippling House brings Westeros to Aberdeen! They will be hosting their monthly Whisky Club & Social Evening with a Game of Thrones twist. The tasting will feature Diageo’s Eight Game of Thrones-themed single malts with highlights including a ‘House Lannister’ Lagavulin 9-year-old and ‘The Night’s Watch’ Oban Bay Reserve.
Spaces are on a first-come-first-served basis and cost £30 per person for eight ‘wee drams’ of Westeros’s finest whisky.
Stonehaven Harbour Festival 25th August
This family day out returns to Stonehaven’s beautiful Harbour. Expect lots of fun for all the family with stalls, displays and local food and drink. A highlight of the festival will be the raft race but if you don’t fancy getting your feet wet, there is also the sandcastle building competition on drier land.
The festival will begin at 11am, with a parade lead by the pipe band and all proceeds from the event will go to the upkeep of Stonehaven Open Air Pool.
SimplyHealth Great Aberdeen Run 25th August
Dust off your running shoes as the SimplyHealth Great Aberdeen Run returns to the city once more. With a variety of different races including a half marathon, 10km and a family mile, the event is open to runners of all fitness levels.
The 10km and half marathon courses will take you through the city centre of Aberdeen with plenty of sights and crowds to cheer you on along the way. So, whether you’re up for a challenge, aiming for a new personal best or just taking part for a bit of fun, it’s sure to be a great day!
