50 Years of ASPC

Some 50 years ago, in an unassuming building on the corner of Alford Lane and Holburn Street, a small group of local Solicitors came together with a simple mission – to make the process of house-hunting easier. This month marks the 50th Anniversary of ASPC – half a century of service to the house buying public in the North East.

The original concept behind ASPC was very simple: to bring together all properties for sale and rent by solicitor firms in the area, under one roof to make it easier for the local people to find their next home. Today, that original concept is still at the heart of ASPC. You’ll be sure to find more than 90% of all properties for sale in the North East at ASPC.

ASPC became the world’s first Property Centre on the 14th of February 1969. We started in a “modest wee shop”, which could get pretty hectic when members of the public came, but it showed the popularity of our idea and we knew we had to keep getting bigger and stronger with each passing year.

The model began to replace throughout Scotland with Centres being established in Edinburgh, Tayside and The Highlands. And the Aberdeen Centre certainly did not stand still during this time. The Centre became so popular that a move to a new premises was needed – our current home of 40 Chapel Street, which was acquired in 1982.

To give you an idea of how modest operations were in those days, the ‘flitting’ was carried out by four or five Directors using a Mitchell’s Self-Drive van. Taking just three hours, we certainly were efficient! The Chapel Street Centre has been extended on two separate occasions to accommodate the 7,500 A4 sheets needed to display every property on our books.

Our friendly, welcoming team are still at our Chapel Street Centre today and are happy to help with any questions you may have.
