In 2023 ASPC decided to hold a photography competition. The results were so encouraging, with many entrants and a uniformly very high standard, that we decided to do it again, in 2024.

Building on the experience we were very pleased to extend the competition into 2025. The standard of entries was really impressive, yet again.

Twelve winners have been chosen and, in addition to receiving a modest gift, will be featured on our website home pages - one per month.

Our August winner – David Majstterek - has given us a view, with which many of us will be familiar – the view from Invercauld Bridge.

The photograph, taken on a glorious day, displays the River Dee and Lochnagar, in the distance.

Lochnagar is thought by many to be the finest mountain in the east Cairngorms, and, certainly, it bears comparison with any in Scotland. The summit plateau is a magnificent place to be, on a clear day, with stunning views all round.

The River Dee flows steadily through the heart of the Cairngorms, through Royal Deeside, and on to the North Sea, its waters winding through a landscape rich in history. On either side of the river, dense pine forests line the banks. In the distance, Lochnagar towers above everything, with its peaks covered in a soft haze.

This serene and captivating scene reflects the raw beauty of Royal Deeside, a perfect spot for walkers, photographers, and anyone seeking a moment of peace.
